Salon de la Société des Artistes Décorateurs (29°) and Salon de la Lumière
An important poster referring to the 1937 Electricity Fairy, executed in 250 panels measuring 2 m x 1.20 m, i.e. 10 m high by 60 m wide, for the 1937 Paris Universal Exhibition. In 1939, there was a follow-up to the Salon des Décorateurs, entitled the Salon de la Lumière, for which Louis Süe chaired the organizing committee (he was the first vice-president of the Société des Artistes Décorateurs). He took part in the overall design of this "street" divided into eight groups: group leaders included Louis Süe, Urbain Cassan, Jean-Jacques Adnet, Paul Tournon, J.- Leleu, Porteneuve, Colette Guéden and André Arbus.
Süe also participated with a stand of his own [cf. 30/102] and designed the Helena Rubinstein stand [cf. 30/103].
Show organization: a circular street lined with "houses and boutiques" (stands); entrance rotunda (Colette Guéden and Urbain Cassan), also called "collector's house" [?]; glass portico; "rue de l'élégance" (L. Süe and Colette Guéden) with bridge and rhodoid river (Sonrel and L. Süe, decorated by Touchagues); "place de province" (L. Süe, who calls it "place des Métiers") surrounded by shop windows devoted to publishing, carpet weaving, pottery and woodworking, a church (L. Süe) and a palace (André Arbus); another street [?, Adnet]; theater (A. and J.-D. Malclès); garden courtyard (André Arbus).
The ensemble testifies to close collaboration between the participants: architects, engineers, decorators and other artists.
