Georges CLAIRIN (1843-1919) Sarah Bernhardt at Belle Ile en Mer, 1916 Original pastel, small gouache highlights on pencil lines Signed and dated lower left On paper 42 x 26 cm Presented in a wooden frame 55 x 39 cm INFORMATION: Preparatory study for the painting "Sarah Bernhardt in her garden at Belle Ile en Mer", completed in 1919 and part of the Musée des Beaux Arts de Tours collection. Georges Clairin, briefly Sarah Bernhardt's lover, then close friend, accompanied and painted her regularly, including, as here, at her vacation properties.
