INFORMATION: A post-impressionist artist, he is associated with the Pont-Aven school. He worked with Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and Paul Cézanne.
His most radical works were produced during his youth, in the years 1887-1892, when he took part in the stylistic innovations of the late 19th century. His quest to simplify form led him to synthesism, then symbolism. From 1893 onwards, he gradually moved towards a return to classicism inspired by the Old Masters.
