Albrecht DURER (1471-1528)(after) Melencolia Engraving Signed in the plate On Arches wove paper 45 x 31 cm INFORMATION: Created in 1514, Melencolia is one of Albrecht Dürer's most famous engravings. Its symbolically rich world of angels, polyhedra, Masonic and alchemical references, hourglasses and magic squares has provoked passionate study and inspired many artists, most notably Salvador Dali, who often refers to it. To make this exceptional old etching accessible, Artfever Gallery has commissioned a new edition: the plate was engraved by J. The plate was engraved by J. Boiteux after the copy kept at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and the print was made in the traditional way, by hand on a hand press, in an intaglio workshop.
