BERNARD RANCILLAC (1931-2021)
Composition. Lithograph in colors on paper signed and justified "EA" in the lower left corner. 18 x 32 cm (at sight). French artist, painter and sculptor, Bernard Rancillac is a pillar of narrative figuration. He defines his work in opposition to lyrical abstraction, and is inspired by the motifs of his daily life to speak to the greatest number. Press photos, television, etc., a bit like pop art before, each element, as banal as it seems, is a potential source of a work of art. For Bernard Rancillac, representing the society in which he lives is the work of a historian. Our lithograph Composition shows the liberation of women with a nude in the foreground, and an American soccer competition in the background. A polemical work, but also a political one, Rancillac explains his work from this angle: "Even when I do naked women, I explain that it is political, because there are places where you can walk around naked and others where your throat will be cut if you show the tip of your ear."
