Alexandre FASSIANOS (1935-2022)
Untitled. Lithograph in colors on paper, signed lower left and numbered 34/50 lower right. 64,5 x 48 cm. In the 1960s, Alecos Fassianos studied Fine Arts in Athens and Paris before turning to his own unprecedented pictorial research and fixing his very personal style. Fassianos likes to treat contemporary subjects in the manner of mythological ones, creating figures with large and massive forms, like modern Greek kouroi transposed into the world of the 1980s. Both hieratic and supple, these figures are characteristic of his style and take place in compositions with titles that often refer to the great myths of ancient Greece. In this heroic nude rider - an ancient Greek cliché - we also find Fassianos' recurring motif of the geometrically patterned scarf placed around a wrist and into which the wind rushes, thus giving a breath of movement to the work. These different elements contribute to make this work, beyond its very decorative aspect, an emblematic lithograph of the artist's most sought after production.
