George Edmund ALLEYN (1931-2004)
Situation. Acrylic on canvas, signed, dated "1966" and titled on the back. 97 x 44 cm. It was during his stay in France, from 1955 to 1970, that the Quebec painter Alleyn began to paint figuratively. He turned to themes related to technology and electronics. Composition perfectly illustrates this artistic transition by representing a cross-section of the human brain, superimposed with connections and cogs. The use of acrylic lends itself particularly well to the representation of this machinery. The beautiful dimensions of this canvas, offer the possibility of plunging inside this science fiction universe. Blue, white, red and black are arranged in a composition, just as important as the subject represented. George Edmund Alleyn's trip to Paris was a crucial stage in his work, which opened the way to the exploration of new themes, far from the Amerindians that had served as his inspiration until then.
