Georges JOUVE (1910-1964) - Lot 14
Georges JOUVE (1910-1964) Hen forming a lamp stand in cream glazed ceramic with green highlights, cracked. About 1948. H. 18 cm. - L. : 15 cm. The artist Georges Jouve studied at the Boule school and took courses to become a sculptor. During the Second World War, he was taken prisoner, escaped, and took refuge in Dieulefit, a village of potters in the Drôme: there he discovered the Arts of Fire. In 1944, he returned to Paris, opened his first workshop and created mainly shaped pieces. In 1954, he returned to the South, to settle permanently in Aix-en-Provence. Jouve surprises in its diversity of creation, its forms and materials proposed. This zoomorphic lamp base highlights the artist's sculptor's gifts, which simplifies the shape of the chicken to the extreme.
