The background presents in tone on tone of fine scrolls in relief, of Chinese influence. Signed on the back "Th. Deck". Around 1880-1890. Diameter : 29 cm. A fine crack on the bottom edge. Théodore Deck is a famous French ceramist of the XIXth century. He made his beginnings in Guebviller, made his companionship and tour of Europe, to base himself in Paris in 1847, where he creates his own factory in 1856, works quickly with a well-to-do clientele, and participates in the universal exhibitions since 1855. Very curious and open to contact with other civilizations, he rediscovered enamel formulas and coverings unknown until then in France. He rediscovered the "Persian blue" or "Egyptian sky blue" with its almost electric reflections, now known as Deck Blue. He understands the interest of working with artists to propose a new ceramic, and many works are signed simultaneously by an artist and by himself. Finally he published in 1887, "the earthenware" to make known this art to all and becomes in 1887 also director of the National Manufacture of porcelain of Sevres until his death.
