Line VAUTRIN (1913-1997)
Line VAUTRIN (1913-1997) Dragon necklace in gilt bronze made of eighteen elements in fall, red enamel. Signed. Length: 40 cm (approximately). Bibliography: Line Vautrin Bijoux et objets par Line Vautrin Patrick Mauriès, ed.Thames Hudson, London. 1992. Line Vautrin began creating bracelets at the age of 21 but it was her participation in the 1937 World's Fair that allowed her to make a name for herself and to diversify her production: she then began to create bag clasps, belt buckles, powder cases... Throughout her career, this artist likes to mix poetry and enigmas while multiplying the references to mythology. She is now recognized as a major player in the French post-war decorative arts. This gilded bronze necklace from the 1960s, represents a dragon holding in its mouth a chain on which a woman is suspended. The necklace is constructed so that the dragon's mouth ends to the right of the wearer so that the figure hangs over the shoulder or back.
