ETABLISSEMENTS GALLE
Establishments GALLÉ Circular bowl in acid-etched multi-layered glass, decorated with leaves and flowers of bindweed in translucent green and brown shades on an opalescent white background. Signed "Gallé". Diam: 10 cm H: 7cm NOTES: - A production of art nouveau objects of small dimensions A part of the production of Gallé's workshops is oriented towards small vases, cups or incense burners of about 10 cm in diameter, which lend themselves to the collection and allow to appreciate the finesse of the realization as well as the meticulousness of the engraving. - The development of a technique in Nancy Emile Gallé and his successor, the Etablissements Gallé, directed by Paul Perdrizet, allowed the multi-layer glass technique to spread in the region. This technique, which has become emblematic of Nancy's glass art, consists of superimposing layers of glass of different colors, which allows the decoration to be engraved like a cameo on hard stone. This type of piece thus testifies to an innovative approach to the technique adapted to new decorations. - A typical flower of Emile Gallé's productions This bowl presents on its body a dancing round of hedge bindweeds treated in different shades of translucent green. These flowers, familiar to lovers of country walks, are frequently found in Gallé's work. Here, the bindweed flower animates the decoration of the object and sometimes comes to life in Gallé's creative mind, as shown by several drawings in the Musée d'Orsay showing how the artist thought of the shape of his vase as a flower.
