Edouard Marcel SANDOZ (1881-1971)
Edouard Marcel SANDOZ (1881-1971) Young Arab Bronze proof with green patina. Signed "SANDOZ" and bearing the signature and stamp of Susse Frères éditeurs, Paris Inscription "cire perdue". Vintage print. H: 10,5 ; W: 11 cm Slight wear and tear NOTES: An emblematic animal sculptor of the first half of the 20th century, a jack-of-all-trades trying his hand at bronze techniques, direct carving of marble and hard stone, and ceramics with Haviland, Edouard-Marcel Sandoz illustrates himself again in this work in an amusing mixture of genres. This small bronze depicting a young Arab shows a little-known facet of the artist. Forgetting his favourite zoological themes, he returns to the great tradition of 19th century orientalist sculpture, making himself the heir of the great Alfred-Louis Barye, Emile-Coriolan Guillemin and Edouard Drouot.
