A Puisaye sandstone flask with a neck and neckline, with a slightly grooved body.

H: 14 cm

Jean Carriès, a renowned sculptor, turned almost exclusively to stoneware after his discovery of Japanese stoneware at the 1878 Universal Exhibition. His talent will make him an essential reference in ceramic art and he will contribute to its revival at the dawn of the 20th century.

Comparable examples are kept at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and at the Musée de la Faïence in Nevers.
