Note on André Maire: Born in Paris on September 28, 1898, André Maire is an exploratory painter, an emblematic figure of 20th century Art Deco painting. He first studied between 1911 and 1916 at the municipal drawing and modelling course at the Place des Vosges in Paris and then, from 1917, became the private pupil of the painter Emile Bernard, whom he had met in 1914 on the initiative of his father Charles-Louis Maire, also a painter. He married the daughter of his master, Irène Bernard, in 1922. As an explorer, he made many trips to Italy, Spain, Africa, Asia, Madagascar and the West Indies. Between 1919 and 1922, he left for his first stay in Indochina where he discovered the ruins of Angkor and contributed to their knowledge. During his stay, he was a drawing teacher at the Lycée Chasseloup-Laubat in Saigon. He returned to Indochina in 1948 where he was professor of drawing and modeling at the Saigon School of Architecture. During his stay, he discovered the Moï high plateaux, Laos and the Mekong. From Laos to Vietnam via Cambodia, he has a sensitive view of people, animals and places. He devotes himself to the study of Khmer Art, the observation of sacred sites, everyday scenes, local inhabitants and the study of the statuary of the Buddhist cult. After his return to France, he died in Paris on October 4, 1984. Paris / IDF = 30 € (all taxes included) + Insurance (2% of the amount awarded) Entire France = 42 € (TTC) + Insurance
