DUCHAMP, Marcel (1887-1968), LE PENDULE DE PROFILE (THE CLOCK IN PROFILE)
Paris, Le Soleil Noir, 1964. Pop-up folding on cardboard (280 x 220 mm), arrow and lettering in black ink, the artist's autograph notes in black pencil: his initials and the words "to be destroyed ad lib".
Original folding designed and produced by Duchamp to illustrate Robert Lebel's book La Double vue, followed by L'Inventeur du temps gratuit published by François Di Dio in 1964.
Proof "to be destroyed if you wish", normally reserved for the 11 top copies of Lebel's book: an off-the-shelf copy bearing the pencil mention "to be destroyed ad lib" in Marcel Duchamp's hand, signed with the artist's initials only. (Schwartz 612).
