Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973) & MADOURA
Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973) & MADOURA Pitcher turned, Heads 1956. In white earthenware, oxidized paraffin decoration, white and black enamel, printed in 500 copies. Authentic replica. Marked Madoura plein feu and Edition Picasso on the reverse. H. 14 cm. Bubbles of cooking, a shock to the handle, small jumps of enamel. Bibliography: Picasso, Catalogue of the ceramic work published 1947-1971 Alain RAMIÉ, Editions MADOURA. An identical pitcher is reproduced on p.189 ill. 367 Picasso, who excels in drawings and paintings of fauna heads, takes up here one of his favourite themes to transpose it onto clay and allow another dimension. The duality of black and white increases the mysterious and questioning character of the drawing. Picasso plays here with the material and creates a new form of ceramics.
