Annam, late 19th early 20th century. Two knight's crosses of the order of the silver dragon. The eight-pointed diamond star is set around a central medallion with the Dong-Khanh Hoang characters in gold on a blue enamelled background. It is surmounted by the imperial crown and the dragon forms the belly. With red tie ribbons bordered with yellow indicating that the order was given by the Emperor of Annam. The ribbon for one of them is used to indicate the title of Grand Commander. Dimensions: 8.7 cm; and 10.7 cm. Note: Emperor Dông Khanh (1885-1888) created the Order of the Dragon of Annam (or Order of the Green Dragon) to commemorate his alliance with France in 1886, an Annamite order until 1896. It is awarded to Frenchmen serving in the countries of Indochina either by the Emperor of Annam or by the French government according to very specific criteria.
