INFORMATION: In 1839, Delacroix painted his famous picture "Le Tasse dans la prison des fous", depicting an episode in the life of the Italian poet Le Tasse, imprisoned in Saint Anne just as his masterpiece, the epic "La Jérusalem libérée", was beginning to be published. The painting was so successful that Baudelaire devoted a poem to it, which was included in his collection "Les Epaves". Delacroix's work on this painting was accompanied by numerous drawings, including the one that inspired this engraving, probably set on copper by Flameng and published in the early 20th century.
