Vincent VAN GOGH (1853-1890)(d'après) Portrait du docteur Gachet Engraving Unsigned On laid paper 32 x 25 cm INFORMATION: "Portrait du docteur Gachet" (also known as "L'homme à la pipe") is the only etching created by Van Gogh. Settled in Auvers sur Oise from May 20, 1890, Van Gogh frequented Dr. Gachet, who introduced him to intaglio printing. On May 25, in the space of half an hour, he produced this famous portrait. 61 copies were printed at the time. In order to make this exceptional etching accessible to the public, the Artfever gallery has commissioned a new edition: the plate was engraved by J. Boiteux after the original. Boiteux after the copy kept at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (and in a slightly larger size than the original to avoid any confusion) and the print made on antique paper in the traditional way, hand-pulled on a hand press, in an intaglio workshop.
