Jean PROUVÉ (1901-1984) Rare low pedestal table, GB 21, circa 1947 Tripod base in oak and triangular brace in folded steel sheet, receiving a circular top in comblanchien. Jean Prouvé, an emblematic figure of 20th century design and heir to the Ecole de Nancy, quickly became interested in working with sheet steel and produced his first furniture in the 1920s. In 1931, he created the Ateliers Jean Prouvé and produced mass-produced furniture, mainly for local authorities. In 1947, he developed the low pedestal table model GB 11 and GB 12, to which he introduced variations in 1949, notably the "comblanchien" top presented here.
